Written 18 Step Process
Listed below is our interior painting process and also some additional information business and home owners find helpful for preparing to get interior painting work.

1) Remove pictures, paintings etc... from the interior walls in preparation of painting. |
A good rule of thumb for all interior painting, regardless of the contractor, is for you to take down anything expensive yourself. Painters don't know if Great Great Grandma gave you that picture or if it was purchased at the flea market. |
2) Move furniture to the center of the room when practical. i.e. if its not too big to be moved. |
We will move the furniture to the center of the room for you and cover it with plastic or canvas as required. |
3) Scrape loose and flaking paint. |

4) Set up scaffolding and ladders as required. |
If you have a tall ceiling and we need scaffolding, please be making plans for what to do with small children. They love to climb on scaffolding. |
5) Cover windows and doors and fixtures, walls not to be painted, etc.. with plastic as required. |

6) Degrease or clean walls as required with a liquid TSP type cleaner. |
A good time to note that smoking is not only bad, nicotine stains cost more money to clean and paint over. We've painted over a lot of nicotine stains. |
7) Neutralize and rinse off TSP. |
TSP type cleaner could be compared to the old lye soap. Its aggressive but used once in a while is not a problem. |
8) Remove switch plate covers, outlet covers, etc... |
Note: Cable TV, phone, internet, network wall plate covers will not likely be removed to avoid the risk of bumping a loose wire and disabling the system. |
9) Caulk cracks. |
cracks a few inches long are not problematic. If you have one running the length of your wall or ceiling then there are some more things you need to know. Please see the stucco repair section of this web site. |
10) Fill nail holes. |
PLEASE tell us if you want to return your pictures and paintings to the same spot so we don't fill the holes. Many people want to re-organize after painting and we fill the holes unless told otherwise. |

Paint Types
The following chart contains the most commonly used interior paints in the Tucson area. The highlighted green lines are the paint we typically use. We're more than happy to upgrade to the Ultra Premium paints when they are available - but they are frequently twice the price of Premium paint and the added cost is passed on to the client. My home was painted with Premium paint if you are curious. See the Paint Types and Textures section for more information.
